First Visit - What to Expect at the Comprehensive Exam
In about one hour, the doctor will:
Review of your medical and dental history
Take a digital full mouth series of 18 x-rays to check for tooth decay (digital radiography reduces radiation by as much as 80 percent)
Perform a complete gum inspection including gum or bone measurements
A cursory TMJ analysis (temporal mandibular joint) usually treatable with a night guard
An oral cancer exam
A head and neck soft tissue exam
Initial Cosmetic Consultation
Computerized dental charting (including new and old cavities, cracks, fractures, missing teeth, worn out fillings, crowns, etc.)
Occlusion evaluation (how your teeth fit together)
